The Apprentice Series 3 - Episode 2
Not such a dumb idea after all! |
"Doggy Style"
| The Task: |
Obviously this week was slightly more relaxing for the girls and so we didn't get much coverage. Katie was fantastic and led the team well. The change of plan came about when Sir Alan's office informed us that the doggy coat had been done before. This left us with just 10 minutes to come up with a new idea. A quick brainstorm and Naomi came up with the wardrobe idea, meaning I had just 5 minutes to design it on the side of the Chrysler!
You also didn't see that it was Gerri who worked out that we should focus on the Pets At Home market and ignore the other two. We were obliged to have a RRP of GBP29.99 including VAT and so Naomi and I calculated that the manufacturing cost must be around GBP9.00 if we were to make a profit and be successful. Still, we won, so the rest is history. |
| That Position: |
Interesting editing here - almost as good as Rory with the swearing! I was trying to demonstrate the measurements of the design to the team and why I thought it would stretch around a medium size dog. It came across as if I was demonstrating what I like to get up to in my spare time! I guess it is only a matter of time before an ex-boyfriend jumps on this particular bandwagon!

| Boy's Team: |
The failure of this task, for me, was a classic case of a project leader going with his idea and ignoring the rest of the team. You'd think people would learn from observation: remember 'Secret Signs'? The idea itself wasn't dreadful but they didn't focus on the major market. The 'Jackets Off' thing didn't help to endear him to the design team.

| Rory Laing: |
Firstly, you have to admire Rory for stepping up to become team leader when he is one of the youngest of the group and I think he suffered from being on the receiving end of Tre-transmit. That said I think he was a little dismissive of other peoples ideas and went with his own. I wish him well.

| Ifti Chaudri: |
As a lot of people have commented, this was a classic case of professional suicide. Actually, I can understand where Ifti was coming from. He is a family man with strong religious values (although I can't claim that). It must be very hard to arrive in a house with people drinking, swearing a lot, and generally being pretty nasty to each other. I guess he just thought, "What am I doing here?"
I wish Ifti well and I think he will be a success by sticking to his values rather than compromising who he is. |
